The upgrade everything else depends on.
Ducted air, an induction cooktop, solar, a battery, an EV charger. It all lands back at the switchboard, and most Sydney boards were never built to carry any of it. An upgrade brings the board up to current standards, puts a safety switch on every circuit, and leaves room for whatever you add next.

Common questions
How do I know if mine needs doing?
Open the board and look. Ceramic fuse holders with fuse wire in them are the clearest sign, and they were standard in Sydney homes for decades. No safety switches, or only one covering part of the house, is another. So is a board that trips when a couple of appliances run together, or anything that buzzes, runs warm or looks scorched. If you are not sure, send us a photo of the inside of the board and we will tell you honestly whether it needs doing.
Do I need one before solar or an EV charger?
Often, yes. Both add serious load and both need their own properly protected circuit, and an older board frequently has neither the capacity nor the physical space. We check the board before quoting either job, so the switchboard work is priced up front instead of turning up as a surprise halfway through the install.
How long does it take, and will the power be off?
A straightforward domestic changeover is usually a day, and the power is off for a good part of it. We give you that window when we quote rather than on the morning, so you can plan around the fridge, anyone working from home, and whatever else needs power.
What about asbestos?
Boards from before the late 1980s sometimes have an asbestos backing panel, common enough in Sydney housing that we always look before we start. If we find it we stop, tell you straight away, and walk you through what has to happen before the work goes ahead. We do not disturb it and we do not quietly work around it.
Is this Level 2 work?
Sometimes. The board itself is standard electrical work, but if the job also touches the service connection, the consumer mains or the meter, that part is Level 2 and sits outside a normal electrical licence. We are Level 2 ASP accredited, so both halves are done by the same crew instead of you coordinating two.
